Car insurance can be purchased in all states, but finding prices for certain geographic areas can sometimes be a difficult task. Most websites that provide comparative automobile insurance quotes require your current address, because it is needed when factoring the premium for a policy. This means that quotes are good only for your particular area or state. However, there are ways in which you can compare car insurance from around the United States.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to a local independent agent licensed to sell automobile insurance in multiple states. He may be able to provide comparative automobile insurance quotes.

  2. Step 2

Visit a captive insurance agent, such as a State Farm agent, to see if she can provide quotes from multiple states. State Farm is a national carrier and its agents may be licensed to sell policies in multiple states.

  3. Step 3

Use a comparative website that can provide automobile insurance quotes from multiple insurance companies. The only drawback is that you need to use a physical address for a particular area to obtain an accurate quote.

  4. Step 4

Go to the website for a regional or national insurance company. You can use the website provided by AllState and Progressive to compare quotes from different states.

  5. Step 5

Call an insurance company that is located in a particular state. Tell them the reason you need an automobile insurance quote, and you may get directed to a customer service representative.

Tips & Warnings
  • Car insurance quotes are based on many factors, including location, so a quote may not be accurate if a ZIP code or address is not used.
  • Never provide your Social Security number when providing information for a car insurance quote online because it is not needed to get a price.
