Decorating a Small Cabin
Many people dream of owning a vacation cabin, whether as a primary residence or, more commonly, as a vacation home. Vacation cabins are often small as they are easier to take care during the off-season or when they have less square footage. This can make them feel dark, however. A cabin should have a cozy but bright and relaxing feel to it, especially if it is used for vacation lodging. Your small cabin's decor should be warm, inviting and as light and natural as the beauty surrounding it. Does this Spark an idea?

Decorating a Small Cabin
-
1
Choose colors from nature when selecting decor. Cabins should blend in with their surroundings, especially if they are small. If your cabin is in the mountains, choose forest greens, earth browns, and the gray-blue of a mountain stream. If your cabin is near the ocean, choose the vibrant blue of the sea and the pinks and tans of the sand.

Leave windows bare. Small cabins will look larger if light is allowed to stream into them. Let the beauty of the outdoors in by leaving your windows bare or by covering them with a simple wooden blind that can be let down at night for privacy. Avoid fussy window treatments completely.

Choose a theme. Many cabin owners love to decorate with a theme in mind. For example, a beach cabin might be decorated with things you find at the beach, such as a pretty bowl full of shells placed in the middle of a coffee table or a photograph of a lighthouse hung on the wall.

Carefully choose only a few decorations. Small cabins should not be over cluttered with too many nick-knacks. Instead, decorate with a few simple pieces or items. Try lining your mantel with some beautiful and cozy candles. Hang a stunning photograph of a nearby landscape above the fireplace. Throw a hand-woven blanket in shades of green over the couch.

Tips & Warnings
Mirrors always make a room look larger. Try hanging a mirror or two to make your small cabin seem brighter and larger.
