How to Cook Sweet Potato Pie
Sweet potato pie has been a traditional dessert in the southern United States since colonial times. Baking the sweet potato pie has become a trademark to cooking the pie, but some cookbooks now feature no-bake versions. Many different recipes for sweet potato pie exist because everyone has made the recipe their own. Sweet potato pie is a dessert that anyone can create with a little time and effort. Things You'll Need
- 1 frozen store-bought 9-inch pie crust
- 1 pound sweet potatoes
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/3 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 3/4 cups heavy cream

Take pie crust out of freezer to thaw.

Peel sweet potatoes and rinse with water. Cut the sweet potatoes. For best results, cut the sweet potatoes into 1-inch cubes.

Place the sweet potatoes in a saucepan. Cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil. Continue cooking the sweet potatoes until they are tender.

Drain the sweet potatoes. Puree them in a food processor. Cool the puree mixture completely by placing it in the refrigerator.

Combine eggs, light brown sugar, vanilla and maple syrup in a mixing bowl. Mix until smooth.

Pour the sweet potato puree into the same mixing bowl. Add salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and heavy cream. Mix until well-blended.

Prepare the crust by poking the bottom of the crust with a fork several times. Pour the sweet potato pie filling into the pie crust.

Bake pie in a preheated 375-degree oven for 45 minutes.

Place pie on a rack to cool for one hour, then place in the refrigerator to finish cooling before serving.

Make your own pastry crust for a truly homemade pie. Top the sweet potato pie with crushed pecans to add a tasty texture to the pie. Add marshmallows to the top of the sweet potato pie while it is still hot to make the pie sweeter.
