Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet access
- Positive attitude!
- Guts!
-
Step 1
Do you have extra things lying around the house that you don’t use?
Sell them on eBay, Amazon or Craig’s list. Skills needed: be able to photograph items clearly, upload the pictures, describe the items accurately. Get some FREE boxes from the US Post Office for mailing. Print your postage online. It takes some practice, but the money adds up! Get out there and start your own internet garage sale! -
Step 2
Do you have decent computer skills?
Build a website for yourself. There are many WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) programs for building web sites. If you have a Mac, iWeb is very easy and fun. Just drag and drop photos into the template, write some content and press publish. After your site is done, let your friends know that you can help them for a reasonable fee! -
Step 3
Do you like to write?
eHow, infobarrel, associated content, suite 101, hubpages and examiner.com are but just few of the many sites looking for articles and content on topics you may be interested in and know about. The money won’t start flooding in until you start building a library of articles, but it’s fun, and relatively easy to do. Write about what you know! Share it with others. It just might become profitable! -
Step 4
Do you like to take pictures?
Sell your photography online. If you can hold a camera steady, and get close enough for people or pet portraits, there is money to be had. Start by volunteering to photograph a senior event at the community center. Try taking some action shots at your child’s soccer game (don’t focus just on your own kid!), how about taking some head shots of friends for their resume or website? Or pets at the local dog park? The sky is the limit on what to photograph. Printing can be done inexpensively and online with sites like Shutterfly or your local drug store. Host the pictures online and send the links out to your friends so they can start ordering. -
Step 5
Are you a good typist?
Many older folks aren’t comfortable with a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Offer to help some senior friends or neighbors with their email or even typing their memoirs. Transcribing audio tapes of personal interviews is a great way to make some money which can be emailed as an attachment to the customer. You don’t have to be speedy, just accurate, but that’s what they have spell check for!
