Frustrated by websites trying to resize your browser window to maximum size to get your attention? Or, is it the opposite that pop-up windows resizing your whole Firefox browser to the size of a 50 x 50 pixels ad, forcing you to expand it back to your regular maximum size? Here's a fix that prevent websites from resizing your Firefox browser window.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mozilla Firefox 3.x.xx or 3.5 versions
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse / touchpad
  1. Step 1
Prevent Firefox browser window being resized by websites

Prevent Firefox browser window being resized by websites

    -- The Easy Way --

Open your Firefox browser (you do not need to connect to the Internet to perform this task). Click "Tools" on the top menu bar, and then go to Options. Click on the tab that says "Content" tab.

In the Content tab, there is an Advanced button to the right of the Enable JavaScript item. Click that, and then deactivate the choice "Move or resize existing windows" by unchecking the item.

If you prefer (like me), disable every options on the menu for best result. Websites are unable to control the browser behavior of unchecked Firefox item in this window.

  2. Step 2

    -- For Intermediate Users --

Start Firefox, you do not need to connect to the Internet. Type the following in the address bar, about:config. Click the right-flyout arrow next to the address bar (on the right). A warning will show, click on the "I'll be careful, I promise" button to continue.

Scroll down the list and find the following item: dom.disable_window_move_resize

Right-click on that, and select Modify. Type "TRUE" in the pop-up box and press OK.

  3. Step 3

Delete cookies often, even if you complete the above Step(s). Clear your Internet cache and cookies after site visits so they lose your browsing information to them, and also stop them from tracking your computer while you are online. This is helpful when you encounter a website, that you know is trying to resize your Firefox browser window size at their will.
