Things You'll Need:
- a written plan
-
Step 1
Determine how irreplaceable you are in your current role - this is very key - what value are you bringing that your company could not replace easily.
-
Step 2
If you are bringing a value that is not easily replaced - make sure you are hitting all your key objectives and document your performance before you go to your boss
-
Step 3
Research how many jobs like yours are available in the market - this will determine how hard you can push - the more available - the harder you can push.
-
Step 4
Determine if you are getting paid at, above or below the market for the job that you perform.
-
Step 5
If you are in a job that you are meeting or exceeding objectives, are getting paid less than the market value and there are many opportunities for you in the market - go for it!
-
Step 6
Go in and tell them how much you value working at the company and confirm that you are doing a good job. Then tell the boss that you value their leadership and need them to help you with your problem, namely, that you want to stay but have many other opportunities and hate to do it but may have to leave for better money if no raise is forthcoming.
