Step 1
You don't need a bachelor degree in a health care related area, but you will need some prerequisites to be admitted to a ultrasound technician program: anatomy and physiology, chemistry, physics, college algebra. You may already have some of these classes in your transcript, so the time required to finish the prerequisites required for the ultrasound technician program can be very short (one semester).

Step 2
Take a Health care concepts or similar course. This course is offered by vocational schools or community colleges, it takes only a few weeks to complete and is required as a prerequisite to ultrasound technician schools. You don't need this course if you have at least one year on patient care related work experience.

Step 3
Complete a certificate program for ultrasound technicians. This program is usually 4 semesters long, and it can be completed in less than two years.
