This article will help you to remove a virus from your computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Virus infected computer
  • This guide
  • Internet
  1. Step 1

Step one, remove your hurt anti virus. Do this by going to start, control panel, then click programs and features, uninstall a program, or add/remove programs, depending on your version of windows. Remove your old anti virus.

  2. Step 2

Go to www.download.com and get Avast Home. This is the best anti virus I know of and should help out quite a bit, see my other article on how to install and tune it.

  3. Step 3

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ launch and run house call with simple instructions. Remove anything it finds.

  4. Step 4

After the machine is more responsive check out my page on performance tuning it to make it run even better.

  5. Step 5

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A WINDOWS RELOAD. I don't care how good you are as a computer person, how many tools and how great they are. Viruses, spyware, and malware leave problems, even when you remove the program that caused the problem. Think of it this way, two guys walk into a bar, have a fight guy 1 got beat up, guy 2 leaves. Just because guy 2 left does not mean guy 1 hasn't been injured in the brawl. Windows because of it's brittle nature should be reloaded by a competent technician yearly for maximum performance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Viruses, spyware, adware, and malware are RAMPANT on the internet now.
  • Make sure you have the set of utilities I recommend on Performance tune PC article
  • Avast Boot time scan can be your best friend, just don't kill windows files.
  • When you're all done also try Start-run Sfc /scannow w/ windows CD inserted.
  • Basically these steps just enable you to get your pc to function correctly so you can back up your data.
  • THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A WINDOWS RELOAD.
  • This should get you back in business ASAP though.
