How to Marinate a New York Strip Steak for Grilling

Many people consider New York strip steak the premium steak cut. When grilling New York Strip steak, it's important to have the steak marinated well before in a marinade that lasts through the grilling process. Before marinating, cut all excess fat off of your steak. One problem with grilling with marinated steak is adding to much liquid to the fat, so many perform a marinade of dry spices and little liquid. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 New York Strip steaks
  • Olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tbsp. light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. onion powder
  • 1 tbsp. Montreal steak seasoning

      Add 1/2 tsp. of oregano, 1 tbsp. of light brown sugar, 1 tbsp. of onion powder and 1 tbsp. of Montreal steak seasoning to a medium-sized bowl. Whisk the mixture together with a fork until all of the ingredients are combined well.

      Place your steaks on a plate and cut off all unwanted fat from the edges. It's important to get rid of the fat so that grease doesn't drop into the grill and burn the steak and marinade.

      Rub the spices all of one side of the steak evenly using your hands. Pour a ¼ tsp. of olive oil over the steak and spices. Turn over the steak and repeat.

      Take the steaks and wrap them in sheets of plastic wrap. Place the wrapped steaks in your refrigerator. Waiting at least 30 minutes should be enough time for your steaks to thoroughly marinate. However, waiting longer helps marinate the steaks with best results.

      Start your grill and let it preheat for 10 minutes. Spread another ¼ tsp. of olive oil to each side of the steaks to help avoid any sticking to the grill. Cook the steaks for up to five minutes on side.
