How to Dial China on a Cell Phone

The procedure for calling China varies based on where you are when you place the call. It's important to get information on how to make this call, since if you just have the local number for a phone in China, it isn't likely to work if you simply dial that number while you're in a different country.

Instructions

    • 1

Dial "011" to get an international line, if calling from the U.S.A.

    • 2

Dial "86", which is the country code for China

    • 3

Input the local number in China, which should include an area code.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visit a website such as "Dialing Abroad" on your computer to find digits to an outside line if you're not in the US (see Resources). Click on the top dropdown menu under "Not Calling from the US?" and select your country. This should give you the right initial digits to call if you're in a country other than the US.

  • If you're already in China, you don't need to call for an outside line or dial China's country code.
