How to Relieve Arthritis Inflammation
There's no cure for arthritis, a chronic conditions characterized by joint inflammation and stiffness. But whether you live with a mild or severe case of arthritis, there are ways to remedy joint inflammation and reduce pain.

Relieve pain with over-the-counter medications. Take an OTC anti-inflammatory drug to stop inflammation and arthritis pain. Effective remedies include drugs such as ibuprofen, aspirin and naproxen sodium. Take as directed.

Ask for a prescription drug. Severe cases of arthritis may not respond to OTC drugs. Schedule a doctor's appointment and inquire about prescription medications such as corticosteroids (oral or injection) and immunosuppressants, which are intended to stop inflammation and pain.

Experiment with natural supplements. Several types of supplements support joint health and naturally reduce inflammation. Take glucosamine to promote healthy joint function, and consider Omega-3 fish oils to stop inflammation and lessen pain.

Use heat therapy. Heat is an effective remedy for arthritis inflammation. Apply a heating pad to sore joints in 20 minute intervals throughout the day as needed for pain; or take a warm bath to soothe joint pain and stiffness.

Consider cold therapy. Cold therapy is another quick remedy for inflammation. Use an ice pack or take a package of frozen vegetables from your freezer and apply the cold compress to stiff, painful joints -- 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.

Incorporate exercise. High-impact workouts can increase joint pain. Even so, movement relieves arthritis pain and eases joint stiffness. Participate in low-impact workouts for 30 minutes three to five times a week. Light workouts include swimming, water aerobics, walking or pilates.

Lose weight. Being overweight can aggravate arthritis and increase joint pain and inflammation. Eat a low-fat diet and reduce your food portions to maintain a healthy body weight and ease pain.
