Homemade dog biscuits for a happy dog.

Many dog owners feel strongly about feeding their dogs food that is natural and healthy. To help improve the health of your dog and feel satisfied about the food you offer, perhaps making homemade dog food and dog biscuits are things to consider. Help keep your dog's teeth white and strong by drying the dog biscuits and making the biscuits crunchy like many of the processed dog biscuits.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 2 cups wheat germ or bran
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 4 tsps. salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 2-1/4 tsps. yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups tomato juice
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon

  • Knife
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven
  • Sealed container
  1. Step 1

Place 2-1/4 tsps. of yeast and 1/4 cup warm water in the mixing bowl. Mix to combine and add 2 cups tomato juice and stir well.

  2. Step 2

Pour 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 3 cups whole-wheat flour, 2 cups wheat germ or bran, 1 cup cornmeal, 1/2 cup powdered milk and 4 tsps. salt into the yeast mixture. Mix with the wooden spoon until combined.

  3. Step 3

Roll out the dough so that it is approximately 1/2-inch thick. Slice the dough into squares with a knife and transfer to the baking sheet.

  4. Step 4

Bake at 300 degrees for one hour. Monitor the baking so that the biscuits do not brown too much.

  5. Step 5

Turn the oven off when the biscuits are lightly brown and leave the baking sheet in the oven for at least four hours and up to eight hours.

  6. Step 6

Remove the hardened biscuits from the oven and store them in a sealed container.
