  1. The Bible as a Road Map

    • 1

Plan your course. When you start your life's journey, it is up to you to decide what kind of life it will be. If you choose to live a Christian lifestyle, then you choose to serve the Lord and follow His plan on your journey. Refer to Joshua 24, where Joshua instructs his people: "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Once your choice has been made, your journey can begin.

Follow a straight path. In Proverbs 3:6, we read that we should follow the Lord if we want our path through life to be straight: "in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." If you want to travel through life on the straight and narrow path, then you simply have to acknowledge that the Lord is the one guiding your journey.

Follow the Lord. In Leviticus, The Lord promises his faithful followers that He will provide a peaceful journey through life. "'I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country" (Leviticus 26:6). Follow His commandments and your trip through life will be free of savage beasts and fear.

Stop to ask for directions. Sometimes in life, we become lost. If your Bible is your road map, it will remind you to ask for directions. Psalms 143:8 reminds us to say to the Lord, "Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.". The Lord is the ultimate giver of directions, so ask Him whenever you feel lost, and He will guide your paths.

Keep your eyes on your destination. At the end of your journey, your goal should be to return to your Father in Heaven. Remember that you can only do this through the saving powers of Jesus Christ. As Acts 4:12 reminds us, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Travel on your journey with your destination in mind, and your Bible road map will guide you along the way.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make time for reading. Even if you only read for a few minutes every evening, you're better off than if you didn't read at all. If you make a wrong turn, go back to the road map and start over again.
