How to Clean the Inner Ear With Hydrogen Peroxide

Ear wax is healthy in small amounts as it protects, lubricates and cleans the outer ear canal. If you are suffering from wax pressure against the ear drum it is usually because you have been probing your ear and the wax has been pushed deeper inside. You should consider cleaning your ears if you are suffering from earache, ringing in the ear, itching or loss of hearing. Read the warnings below before you proceed.

Instructions

    • 1

      Fill the ear syringe.

    • 2

Tilt your head to the left side and apply the syringe to the right ear, applying 2-3 drops. You will notice a fizzing sound as the peroxide bubbles. Once the sound stops, tilt your head over the sink and allow the peroxide to run from your ear.

    • 3

      Repeat with the other side.

Tips & Warnings

  • The hydrogen peroxide should be at body temperature; otherwise it can cause dizziness and fainting. If you have a lot of very solid wax in your ear, the hydrogen peroxide will not be able to dissolve it, as there will be insufficient room for it to bubble and expand. This may result in a damaged eardrum. If you already have impaired hearing or problems with your eardrums, you should not use hydrogen peroxide in your ears, but seek medical advise. Do not use hydrogen peroxide for earwax removal if you have sensitive skin.
