Step 1
Do your research. Pinpoint the area of town you are interested in. Check out all hotels in the area and their prices. Pay attention to the stars each hotel has earned. This will help when bidding later.
-
Step 2
Decide on a bid amount based on your research. Priceline suggests taking 40% off of the regular hotel price, however I always start at about 60% off. When deciding on your bid, take into account extra fees and amenities. For example, some hotels charge for parking and internet usage. A free continental breakfast can also mean significant savings on breakfast costs, however most 4 stars don't include one.

Step 3
You are ready to place your bid. Start bidding at least 3-4 days before your trip. You can only place the same bid once every 24 hours. So, it's a good idea to start with 4 stars and your ideal location first. Then if your bid isn't accepted, you can expand your area and go down to 3 1/2 stars. Sometimes, Priceline will decline your bid and suggest that you bid again, suggesting that you will increase your chances if you raise your bid by a certain amount. This happened to me the last time I bid and my second bid which was increased by $17.00 was accepted. I still saved $120.00 on a 4 star!!
