What could be more fun in the wintertime than spending time with family and enjoying the taste of warm, roasted marshmallows? Roasting marshmallows is a chance for the whole family to come together and enjoy quality time together. Here's how to roast marshmallows.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To roast marshmallows, start by choosing sticks to hold the marshmallows. To roast marshmallows in "natural" style, you can use twigs gathered from the great outdoors. It's important to find sticks that are as straight as possible and substantial enough to survive the flame. They also need to be long enough so that hands won't be exposed to the flames. Sticks used for roasting marshmallows should be as clean as possible and should be thoroughly dry before using. If you're concerned about health issues, buy metal skewers from the grocery store instead.

  2. Step 2

To load the marshmallow onto the stick, pierce the marshmallow directly in the center and gently guide it onto the stick. Push it far enough so that the marshmallow is secure, but not so far that it'll be difficult to remove once it's roasted. It's best to keep it as close to the end of the stick as possible so you can remove it quickly.

  3. Step 3

To roast marshmallows, guide the loaded stick into the flame and start rotating it. When the marshmallow starts to turn slightly brown, remove the stick and check the color of the marshmallow. If it's not quite a golden brown, stick it back into the flame and continue rotating the stick until it reaches the desired color. This process usually takes around thirty seconds.

  4. Step 4

Once a golden brown color is achieved, take the stick out of the flame and gently remove the marshmallow. Enjoy the smell and taste of a freshly roasted marshmallow!

Tips & Warnings
  • Sandwich freshly roasted marshmallows on a piece of chocolate and then between graham crackers to create S'mores.
  • Make sure children or adults don't get too close to the flame or put their face too close to a hot marshmallow.
