Things You'll Need:
- pre-washed hair
- pre-dryed hair
- long enough hair to put in ponytail
- bristle brush
- hair elastic band
- hair spray
- bobbypins
-
Step 1
First use your fingers and a bristle brush to smooth out your hair and pull it directly towards the back of your head.
-
Step 2
For extra volume tease your hair with a brush or use fingers to lift and fluff the top part of your hair before, during or after your positioning of the ponytail base.
-
Step 3
Direct your ponytail to positioned between the top and just above the middle of your head. The positioning of the ponytail depends on your goals but its best if it was higher up.
-
Step 4
Now use a hair elastic band and tie up your ponytail. Its best to use a clear one or something that matches with your color hair.
-
Step 5
Take the bottom of the tail and wrap it up and around the base in a clockwise direction. You have the option to wrap the bun tight or loose. Considering the fact that it's a "messy updo", consider making it semi-loose.
-
Step 6
Keep wrapping your hair around the base until all hair is used up.
-
Step 7
Tuck any left over hair into the new wrapped bun. Bobby pin it into place.
-
Step 8
Use fingers to gently pull some of the bun hair to loosen and give it a loose, messy look.
-
Step 9
Last, use a soft holding hairspray to finish the look.
