How to Easily Make Your Own Dishwasher Detergent

Make your own detergent to get sparkling dishes for less money.

If you're not happy with your dishwasher detergent or if you're tired of spending money on it, create your own. All it takes are a couple of ingredients and you'll have homemade dishwasher detergent in no time and for little money.

Things You'll Need

• 2 cups borax
• 2 cups baking soda
• Airtight container
• 2 to 3 drops essential oil

Instructions

1. Add 2 cups of baking soda and 2 cups of borax to a large, airtight container.

2. Add two to three drops of essential oil if you'd like to add a fragrance.

3. Place the lid on your container and shake the container for two to three minutes to ensure even distribution.

Tips & Warnings

• Clearly and boldly label your container.

• Use 2 tbsp. of detergent per load.

• Pour vinegar in the rinse compartment to avoid buildup on dishes.
