What was once MSN Live Search, transformed into Bing on June 3, 2009. In the major search engine hierarchy, Bing is one of the top three, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Google and Yahoo! And it works just like any other search engine--you enter a word or a phrase in the search box, and Bing gives you a list of web sites that it determines are most relevant. For webmasters, Bing works just like other search engines. It sends out a bot, appropriately named MSNBot, to scan the Internet for new web pages. When it finds new pages, it ranks them according to the content on the site and other key factors. But you can also register a web site instead of waiting for the MSNBot to find you.

Instructions

    • 1

Create targeted web content. When you write your web content, think about your readers. What keywords would they use? Be sure to put those keywords and phrases into your content. Bing guidelines even suggest one topic per page.

    • 2

Search for your website on Bing. Go to the Bing homepage and enter your site's URL. If it doesn't come up, you'll need to submit your site to Bing.

    • 3

Submit your site to Bing. Go to the Bing submission page (see Resources), type in the URL of your site's homepage and press the "Submit URL" button. The MSNBot will follow the links on your homepage to locate the other pages on your site.
