How to Troubleshoot a Tiny Titan Water Heater
Tiny Titan water heaters have an externally adjustable thermostat and a wall-mounting bracket. The water heaters are convenient because they plug into a standard 110-120 volt outlet. As with any water heater, however, you are bound to run into problems. Save time and money by troubleshooting those issues on your own. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Set the thermostat to a higher temperature if you are experiencing insufficient hot water. There may also be sediment or lime in the tank. If you suspect there is, drain the tank and determine whether water treatment is needed. You may also be using too much hot water and should think about how to reduce your consumption of it. Finally, you may have too small of a water heater for your needs. If this is the case, consider getting a larger unit.
-
2
Tighten all threaded connections if it appears that your water heater is leaking. Your hot or cold supply connection, relief water valve or drain valve may be improperly sealed. If you cannot find the source of the leak from the unit, inspect any other appliances that are near the water heater. Your leakage could be from some other appliance with a water line.

3
Determine whether the electrical switch is turned on or if there is a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker if you have absolutely no hot water. If that is not the problem, your high temperature light switch may be open. If it is, reset it. Finally, you may have a non-functioning thermostat, which you'll need to replace. (See Resources for information in the manual on how to do this.)
-
4
Set the thermostat to a lower setting if you are experiencing high operation costs. The thermostat may also be improperly calibrated. In that case, you'll need to replace the thermostat. You may also have long runs of exposed piping that are allowing the water to cool, causing you to need more hot water. In this case, insulate the piping.

5
Replace the anode(s) with one of less active material if the water has an odor. Smelly water can be caused by a concentration of sulfate in the water. Chlorinate the water heater tank and all hot water lines. Contact your local water heater supplier for information concerning an anode replacement kit and chlorination treatment.

Tips & Warnings
Do not remove the anode, leaving the tank unprotected. All warranty on the water heater is void if this occurs. Always check manufacturer recommendations before making any adjustments to your Tiny Titan water heater.

I have two Titan water heaters. If you Titan fails you may find that the wiring has burned and or the safety switch has burned and melted. In my opinion this is a serious safety problem with the Titans and I have reported mine to the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission). Buyer beware: I like what the unit does but the apparent insufficient wiring presents a fire safety hazard.
