Much like there are fuses in your home, there are fuses in your car that help provide power to your lights and other electronics. When a fuse blows on your car it needs to be replaced rather than simply switched on and off like you would in your home fuse box. Replacing a fuse in your 2002 Volkswagen Beetle is exceptionally easy to do and should only take a few minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open up the fuse box on your Beetle. On the 2002 Beetle, the fuse box is located to the left of the steering wheel. You will see a slot in the plastic where the door can be lifted out and removed.

  2. Step 2

Look on the back of the fuse box door you removed to see a guide for the fuse box. The guide will let you know where the fuses are located for each item in your car. Locate the fuse you believe to be blown on the chart and then remove it.

  3. Step 3

Hold the fuse up to the light and look at the thin metal bar going through the middle of the fuse to see if it is broken. If it is not, you may have removed the wrong fuse or the issue you are having with your car may not be fuse related.

  4. Step 4

If your fuse is broken, replace it with an identical fuse. Take the broken fuse into your local auto supply store to purchase a replacement. Fuse kits can be purchased for just a few dollars and will contain replacements for all of the fuses in your car.

  5. Step 5

Ensure that the new fuse is working by trying to operate the light or other electrical device that was previously not working. If the problem is resolved, replace the fuse box cover.
