Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut your lumber. You'll need:

Two strips of lumber, 2 inches x 1/4 inches, 2 feet longer than the top of your bed.
One sheet of lumber, 1 inches x 24 inches, as long as your bed is wide. This will be the visible part of your headboard, so you may want to shop for a texture, color and appearance you like.

    • 2

Prepare your headboard. You may want to take time to decorate the large sheet of lumber by painting or staining it. You might even want to shape the top into a curve, add upholstery, carving or shelves. You'll be looking at this every night, so be sure to make it something you'll be glad to see.

Attach the support lumber. Place one of your 2 inch strips to that the edge and one end are flush with the one corner of the rear of your headboard. Attach it to the headboard using two screws, diagonally placed in the top corner of the headboard. Attach with two more screws, diagonally placed in the bottom corner of the headboard.

Repeat with the other 2 inch strip on the other edge of the rear side of the headboard.

Place your headboard by sliding the exposed lengths of your support lumber between the head of your bed and the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a king or queen size bed, you may want to consider a third support strut at the center of the headboard.

  • As always, only use power tools with which you have been properly trained. Wear gloves and safety goggles while working.
