How to Locate a Good Psychic

Psychics answer the difficult questions on relationships, money, work, health and more. But if your psychic is a clever fake, truly psychic but unethical, or perhaps just so mired in her own problems that she can't address yours, the answers you're paying for may do more harm than good. The best psychics will guide you toward your own answers, providing illumination and hope in unclear, confusing situations.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what sort of psychic reading you want. Different sorts of psychics work in different ways; see the Resources section for a list of different ways a psychic may work.

    • 2

Check your local phone book for a "spiritual boutique," "mind body soul store" or "new age bookstore," all terms for places that will be in the know about which psychics are available locally. Call or visit and inquire about whether any psychic fairs are held nearby. These are the ideal places to start looking for a psychic, but such fairs aren't always advertised on radio, television or the Internet.

    • 3

Visit a psychic fair--it's well worth the time and effort to travel a short distance for this if necessary. While many credible psychics offer long-distance services and phone readings, seeing them in person gives you a chance to use your own intuition about who attracts you and who doesn't, as well as watching how they interact with others.

    • 4

Ask the psychics about their training and experience. Treat their time with respect, but don't be afraid to chat for a minute or two; this gives you a chance to see whether you "connect" or not. There's no point in having a psychic reading unless you can feel good about sharing with the psychic. Be alert to feelings inside yourself such as distrust and suspicion; there's nothing wrong with a little healthy skepticism, but when these feelings are strong they may indicate that the psychic you're talking to may not be right for you.

    • 5

Jump in. Psychic fairs are the best place for this because you can usually purchase a mini-reading at reduced cost instead of committing to an entire hour or more at a price that may reach into the hundreds of dollars. Most psychic fair readings will last 15 or 30 minutes, giving you ample time to try readings from more than one psychic.

    • 6

Take notes or, even better, use a tape or digital voice recorder to record what the psychic says; a reputable psychic won't mind, and may even have recording equipment on hand for you.

    • 7

Evaluate whether the information you were given was useful. This is a personal decision, but in general you should be looking for specific, non-trivial information; don't be afraid to ask for clarification if something seems trivial or overly general. Make sure you get a business card from the psychic or psychics you felt you really connected to and confident about sharing with. Now that you've established this connection and a level of comfort, you want to return to the same psychic if possible, even if that means doing distance-reading sessions over the phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Scam psychics will watch you very carefully, telling you what they think you want to hear. Real psychics will tune in to psychic or spiritual energy to receive their information. Word of mouth is a good way to track down effective psychics, but don't fall into the trap of thinking a psychic is good for you just because your best friend had a good experience with her; each connection between psychic and client is purely individual.

  • Scam artists may try to charge you money for removing curses or convince you that you are somehow doomed and can only survive with their guidance--all plots to get more of your money.
