How to Install Caster Camber Plates
Designing a car that handles well isn't an easy task; it's hard to figure out which of the many possible things to tweak first. One of the easiest things to do, which gives you lots of room for adjustment, is adding a set of caster camber plates. With a set of these installed on the front of your 1994 Ford Mustang, you can fine-tune the caster and camber of your suspension, giving you optimal handling.
Things You'll Need
- Jack
- Jack stands
- 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
- Spring compressor
- Allen key set
- Wrench set
- Air compressor
- Pneumatic impact wrench
- Impact sockets

1
Jack up the front of the vehicle using the jack and secure it on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is as solid as possible before you crawl underneath.
-
2
Remove the front wheels using the impact wrench and impact sockets. Place the wheels to the side.
-
-
3
Place the jack under the front suspension and jack it up until it touches the lower control arm. Keep positive pressure on the arm, but not enough pressure to lift the vehicle off the stands.
-
4
Unbolt the top alignment plate using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set.
-
5
Unbolt the upper strut bolt. It's in the center of the strut tower, and you must use an impact wrench. Without the jack underneath the control arm, the spring would decompress and cause massive problems, so make sure it's secure.
-
6
Remove the upper bushing and stock alignment plate from the vehicle and place to the side.
-
7
Slowly lower the jack so that you can access and remove the strut top and the other section of the alignment plate. Do not let the spring come out of place.
-
8
Insert the new caster camber plate in from the bottom of the strut tower and loosely bolt into place.
-
9
Guide the center of the strut into the hole in the middle of the caster camber plate and use the jack to lift the strut back in through the hole. Place the rubber bushing onto the center of the strut and then loosely bolt the nut onto the strut.
-
10
Tighten the bolt onto the strut with the impact wrench.
-
11
Tighten the bolts on the caster camber plate in the position you would like it to be. You can adjust these and align them using the marks on the caster camber plate. Once it's tightened, you can test out the vehicle and if necessary, play with the settings as necessary.
