1
If possible, schedule this project when the gas tank is almost empty. Select a large, clean, level area to park.

2
Place the car's transmission in "Park" and set the emergency brake. Use a wood block on each side of either of the front tires as an additional safety measure. Place a large piece of cardboard on the ground under the rear of the car.

3
Arrange your trouble light, wrenches and screwdrivers so that they are within easy reach. Using the floor jack, carefully raise the rear of the car.
-
4
Under the hood, disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate the fuel line and relieve the fuel pressure to the tank using an open end wrench.
-
5
Unscrew the fuel filler pipe flange from the tank, locate and loosen the tank support straps and partially lower the tank. The fuel line and sending unit are on the top of the tank. Support the tank momentarily and disconnect the fuel line and sending unit electrical wires. Carefully lower the tank to the ground.
