How to Attach a Bridle to a Diamond Kite
Creating diamond-shaped kites can be a simple arts and crafts project that is satisfying once the kite you've made is flying high up in the air. A kite will typically consist of the spine and spar that hold your kite together and create the frame. After the cover is placed on the kite, the bridle is attached. The bridle is a string that is connected to the spine or spar to help control the flying of the kite (see References).
Things You'll Need
- All kite materials:
- Glue or scotch tape
- One sheet of paper
- Two wooden sticks
- Thin garden twine or fishing line for the bridle
- Large sewing needle

Cut the line for your bridle so that it is close to 60 cm long. You don't want to make it any shorter. If you use fishing line, you may want to burn off the end rather than cut to prevent the line from twisting.

Use a large sewing needle to thread one end of the line through both the sail and the bottom of the kite.

Tie the end of the line around the spine after bringing it through the bottom of the kite. Pull tight to make a knot. Tie the other end through the hole in the sail.

Cut off a new and separate piece of line. Cut only about 10 cm. Tie a knot toward the center of the frame, which the bridle runs through. Make sure that the bridle is tied tightly into the knot. This will help you to control the strength of your bridle line.

Attach the tail before flying your kite so that you properly complete the diamond shape of the kite. Once finished, test your kite and wrap the line around your hand to control the bridle.
