  • money
  • interest in Halloween
  1. Step 1

Haunted houses, spooky hayrides, and costume parades surround the community of Detroit during the Halloween holiday season. Michigan is rich in Halloween history, and Detroit has several attractions that will certainly scare your socks off.

Adding to the thrills surrounding Halloween, the great escape artist Houdini died during a stunt in the Detroit area on a day none other than October 31st. The mysterious and chilling Halloween holiday is celebrated in Detroit with great enthusiasm.

    Attraction Number One: Blake’s Halloween

If you think haunted houses are fun and exciting, then you just haven’t lived until you’ve visited Blake’s Farm in Armada, Michigan. The special effects, impressive lighting, and unimaginable ghoulish creatures will frighten and enlighten any Halloween enthusiast. The attraction includes a ghostly hayride and a three-story haunted barn tour that has really put Michigan on the Halloween attraction map. Over 100,000 people attend this spectacular event every year! Of course, the thrills and chills are not recommended for young children, so consider hiring a babysitter for the evening. During the day, there are many activities that would be perfect for youngsters including: apple picking, wagon rides, and corn mazes. Ticket prices for the highly anticipated Blake’s Halloween haunted barn tour are $19.95 for adults and $15.95 for children under age ten. In addition, these ticket prices include hot cider and donuts. For more information, please contact the farm at info@blakefarms.com.

  2. Step 2

    Attraction Number Two: Erebus

Once again, a haunted house takes the top spot for Michigan Halloween fun. Pontiac, Michigan hosts the world’s largest walk-through haunted attraction. The mystifying spooks, eerie sound effects, and amazing make-up make this event a sure crowd pleaser. The admission price is $22.00, but some discounts are available, so check out the Erebus website. The Erebus Halloween haunted house in Pontiac, Michigan stands four stories high and is certainly not for the weak at heart. Erebus opens for Halloween fun on the last weekend in September and runs through the month of October.

  3. Step 3

    Attraction Number Three: Zoo Boo

If haunted houses and spooky hayrides aren’t really your style, then check out the amazing Zoo Boo hosted at the Detroit Zoo. This attraction is for people of all ages and is especially appealing to children who enjoy “trick or treating”. There is a half-mile trail through the zoo that allows youngsters to visit the sights and sounds of Halloween in a comfortable and not too scary environment. An amphibian fun house is a new attraction at Zoo Boo for 2009. The Zoo Boo attraction is offered on October 16-18, 23-25, and 29-31. Tickets to the event can be purchased for $6.00 per person each evening and the gates to the zoo close at 8:30pm (initial entry). This enjoyable Halloween Zoo Boo celebration has been known to sell out, so be sure to plan ahead. If you need more information, check out the website at www.detroitzoo.org.
