Lets face it, there will come a time in all of our lives where we will be faced with having to quit a job. Whether it be because we hate the job or because we are moving up in life, there are a few things you should always remember when it comes to quiting a job.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Give a two week notice - Giving a two week notice is just the responsible thing to do. As they say, don't burn your bridges. You never know when you might need your ex employer for something. Not giving a two week notice can leave a bad taste in your ex bosses mouth. You have to understand that they need to fill your position so just leaving without giving the proper notice can put your image and reputation at risk. So do the right thing and give a two week notice.

  2. Step 2

Ask for a reference - This is also why it is so important to leave the right way. Your going to need a reference in the future. Your next job will ask you about your previous employer, they might even call them. Ask your boss if they mind being put down for a reference. Having a boss as a reference is a good thing. It looks good to your next employer.

  3. Step 3

Give your notice in person - Last but not least have enough professionalism to give your notice in person. Don't send an email or call and give your notice. Its just not the way to go. Ask your boss for a minute of his or her time, give them the notice and explain to them why you are leaving. You don't have to go into deep detail here, just let them know its nothing the company did. You are simply leaving for personal reasons.
