The magician and spectator select a pile of cards, choose one each and initial it. Like other tricks, they switch and end up choosing each other's initialed card; however, this uses the marked-card technique. Here's how to do it.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  1. Step 1

Before the trick begins, take two cards. On the first one, draw small circles on the upper-back-left and lower-back-right.

  2. Step 2

On the second card, write your initials.

  3. Step 3

Place the dotted card at the very bottom and your initialed card right above it.

  4. Step 4

Cut in two and give the spectator the bottom half. Tell him to select any card from the middle and place it face up atop the pile. Have him initial it. All the while, as you repeat, you are just pretending to initial it.

  5. Step 5

Have him turn the initialed card face down atop the deck and cut it in half, which places the dotted card directly to his card's right.

  6. Step 6

Spread your cards face down and have him choose one, without looking at it, then place inside his half. You do the same, except you take the card to the left of the dotted card.

  7. Step 7

Your initial card is already in his half, so the card he just took was a red herring. Now turn both halves over and reveal that you each took the other person's card!
