Step 1
Coach designs their handbags using first class materials. Their bags are made with heavy duty materials that are durable, and can stand the test of time. When you are inspecting a Coach handbag, check to see that the materials are real leather, silk, or a fabric that feels like it's a quality fabric. If it seems cheap, or similar to other purses you have bought for a fraction of the price, begin to wonder if it is real.
-
Step 2
Check the pattern of the material. Coach handbags typically have a signature "c" design on the handbag. If you notice that there are c's but some of them look similar to g's or are hard to read and are not clear, then it is another sign that the handbag could be a fake. Coach's fabric patterns are clear, and colorful. Don't be fooled by imposters.
-
Step 3
Coach places their name in their fabric patterns, or on the hardware on their handbag. Even some of the buckles or loops contain the Coach name. Look very closely at the handbag for Coach's name. If you don't see it, it is a sign of a fake.
-
Step 4
Coach always places serial numbers in their handbags. The serial number patch is located in the inside of the handbag and lists their "creed" of quality as well as a unique serial number for the bag. There are specific numbers that are valid for serial numbers and others that are not. Check for the patch, and if you see it, check the internet to make sure the serial number is correct for the bag you are buying.

Step 5
If you have never held or carried a Coach bag, visit a local store that carries their products. Hold them, and inspect them so you can understand what their products are like. This will help you in figuring out real deals, and fakes down the road.
