Repair Sticky Drawer Slides

Fighting with your dresser drawers can be most frustrating. Not repairing them can evolve into broken or damaged handles, and the drawers may even start to fall apart. The following 3 tips will ensure your dresser drawers of working properly and are easy to accomplish.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    * Take the drawers out of the dresser and look at the edges. Do you notice any shiny spots? These are areas that have been causing the sticking. Sand these areas down with a course sand paper and this particular issue is now taken care of.

  2. Step 2

    * If your drawer is used to hold a number of books or other heavy items, rub the frame of the dresser (the spots where the drawer glides into the frame) with candle wax, paraffin, or an old bar of soap to give it the glide it needs.

  3. Step 3

    * If you take a drawer out, you may notice that the glide ( the narrow piece of wood which the drawer glides shut) is missing or is worn down. If it's missing, the drawer will drag. Try pushing 3 or 4 thumb-tacks along the glide. This will give the drawer the lift it needs and should open and close with ease.

on 10/12/2009 Thanks. I've found some thrift store dressers that no one wanted, so definitely useful to me.

on 10/8/2009 great info. i think xivyisazombiex meant "plan" and not "pain" or perhaps was indicating how sticky drawers are in fact a pain.
