Step 1
Label all your spices where you can see them. I keep my spices in a drawer, so I put sticky labels on the top of each lid. If your spices go in a spice rack, you might not need to add new labels.
-
Step 2
Choose your top 10 most commonly used spices. Use a highlighter pen to color in their label, or mark them with a colored dot or flag. This way you'll be able to identify your top 10 spices in a flash while cooking.
-
Step 3
Keep your top spices in front, or where they are easiest to reach. Then arrange your other spices. You might put the least used spices at the very bottom of your spice drawer, and spices you use sometimes in the middle. Or arrange your other spices in alphabetical order.

Step 4
Once your spices are in order, don't let them get out of order again. Check periodically to make sure your system is still in place and working. If you've found double-ups clearing out your spice rack, give them to a friend or family member and hope that they might return the favor one day.
