How to Make World of Warcraft Costumes
Dressing as a World of Warcraft character for Halloween or costume play is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to a fantasy video game character while dressing in an outfit that's as individual as your own game avatar. While many aspects of assembling a World of Warcraft character costume are similar to any other fantasy costume, a few visual tips will help your costume be recognizable as inspired by this popular game.

Color your skin. If you are dressing as an orc or dark elf, color all areas of available skin. Use grease paint makeup, or, if you want something more durable, spray your skin with a mixture of water and food coloring (a few drops per bottle).

Figure out what to do with your hair. Most WoW characters have long hair, so use your own if it's long, straight and you don't have bangs. Color with temporary dyes. Otherwise, use a wig; costume stores carry long hair wigs year round that you can change to whatever color and style you want by spraying them with hair color spray and trimming them into shape. To spike, use clear craft glue or hair glue.

Make or buy any necessary prosthetics. Pointy ears for elves and orcs are available at costume stores, as are items like false facial hair. You can also make your own items using liquid latex; form shapes by mixing latex with shredded paper towels (this makes a rough, moldable dough that becomes rubbery when dry).

Build or obtain your garb. World of Warcraft character garb tends to be minimal and use bright colors, so if you can sew, make items from thick, boldly colored fabrics such as dyed leather and textile fabrics. Otherwise, collect commercially made fantasy costume pieces made of leather or synthetic materials like plastic and rubber. Look for items of roughly the right shape that you can personalize with acrylic paint.

Add weapons and accessories. Buy or borrow high-quality wall hanging props or build your own items. Like costumes, WoW accessories and weapons are elaborate, colorful and larger than life. Build them from materials such as leather, vinyl, or craft and upholstery foam covered in Plasti-Dip (liquid rubbery coating available in hardware stores) and paint with acrylic paint.
