How to Change a Name on an iPod

When you sync a new iPod with iTunes for the first time, you have the option of naming the device. This name will then appear in iTunes each time you sync your device with that software program. If you've purchased a used iPod or a friend gave you an old iPod, you may wish to change the name of that player. Fortunately, you don't have to reformat the iPod in order to change the name of the device. The program iTunes can be used to quickly change the name of any iPod.

  • Open iTunes.

  • Plug the iPod into the computer. Wait until you see the name of the player listed under "Devices."

  • Double click on the name of the iPod. Once you do, the name will be highlighted.

  • Type in the desired name for the iPod. Once you start typing, the original name will automatically disappear and the new name will appear.

  • Press the "Enter" key. Wait a few seconds and the name change will show up in iTunes. You can then eject and unplug your iPod.
