There are several ways to send faxes. Besides the bulky old office machine wheezing away in the corner, you can use fax software that is installed on your PC; you can send and receive faxes online using a fax service; or, if you're at a hotel, you can just hand the document over to the front desk with a tip and ask them to deal with it. One of the most common solutions now is to send a fax from a multi-purpose printer/fax/scanner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fax machine
  1. Step 1

Check the multi-purpose printer/fax/scanner is connected to a telephone jack. If you have a DSL line--you get your Internet through the phone line--you will need to add a filter.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the printer is on. Load the document on the glass, face down. Or load the document into the document feeder. Make sure you get the document the correct side up in the feeder. Look for a little icon adjacent to the feeder which will tell you.

  3. Step 3

Scroll to "Fax" from the main menu of the printer and press "Select" or "Enter," or press the "Fax" button, if that's appropriate.

  4. Step 4

Enter the fax number on the keypad. U.K. fax numbers use a country code of 44. So, to enter the number in the U.S., punch in 011 to dial out of the U.S.; then 44; and then the number. Sometimes a U.K. number will have a leading zero. The leading zero is only for use in the U.K., and you need to remove it in the U.S. So, if your correspondent gives you a number which reads 07777777777, remove the 0 and enter 011447777777777.

  5. Step 5

Press "Start." The printer will scan your document and send it to the UK number you entered. The printer will beep on conclusion to tell you that the fax sent.
