How to Organize Your Scrapbook Pages

How to Organize Your Scrapbook Pages thumbnail
Scrapbooks can be beautiful, but messy to create.

Scrapbooking is an age-old tradition of keeping family memories in a creative and decorative book. If you are a scrapbook maker, you probably have need for a system of organization, as scrapbook pages and materials are not always placed in scrapbooks immediately after purchase or creation. Pages and supplies can quickly become a mess if you don't know where to keep them. An effective organizational system will keep scrapbook pages safe and accessible, but out of the way.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all your scrapbook supplies and place them on a large, flat surface. Place them in separate piles according to holidays, events or seasons. If you have some materials that are not specific to holidays, you can organize them according to color, theme or style. Separate each category into separate stacks of completed pages and unused materials.

    • 2

Use two file folders for each holiday or event. You can choose folders in different colors if you want to color-code your categories. Color-coding with folders is especially helpful when organizing according to color.

    • 3

Label each folder with a permanent marker. For the two folders in each category, label one "completed" and the other "materials." For example, completed Christmas pages will go into a folder labeled "Christmas, completed." The unused Christmas pages and materials will go into a folder labeled "Christmas materials."

    • 4

Use envelopes or sandwich bags to contain smaller items. Label the bags and envelopes, and place them in their corresponding folders.

    • 5

Place your hanging file folders in the drawers of your cabinet. If you have a cabinet with more than one drawer, place a few of the hanging folders in each drawer. The small, bent metal ends of the folders should fit over the file bars to allow them to slide back and forth easily, while holding them up.

    • 6

Place the labeled file folders containing your pages and materials into the hanging folders. Use one drawer for the folders containing completed pages, and the other drawer for the folders containing unused materials. If you wish, you can place them in order of when the holidays or events occurred.
