How to Build a Display Rack for Fishing Poles
-
1
Choose the size of your display rack based on the number and size of your fishing poles. Lay your poles on the ground spaced evenly apart. Measure the width of the area, then add a few inches of clearance on either side. This is the width of your display rack. Determine the depth of your display rack based on the size of your poles. Try a depth of around 12 inches to give the display rack stability and room to accommodate your poles. The more and bigger the poles you wish to display the more important it is to have a wide base. You are basically constructing a set of shelves for your rods to lean against in an upright position.

2
Decide on the height of your display rack. You'll want your display rack to be tall enough to hold your rods in a stable, upright position.

3
Cut two pieces of furniture-grade plywood to the width and depth you measured. One piece will serve as the bottom or base of your display rack, and the other piece will serve as the shelf.
-
4
Cut two pieces of furniture-grade plywood to the height you want for your display rack and to the same depth as your baseboard and shelf board.
-
5
Mark the top piece or shelf piece at the points where each pole will lean in the display. Use a jigsaw to carve out notches 2 to 3 inches deep at each point. Sand notches for a smooth finish.
-
6
Assemble the four pieces using wood screw or wood glue to create an open box. The base piece goes on the bottom. A side piece attaches to each side of the base, and the shelf piece goes on top with the grooves facing out.
-
7
Drill a hole on each side piece, 3 inches from the baseboard and 1 inch from the front of the display rack. The hole should be the same diameter as your wooden dowel rod. Cut your wooden dowel the same width as your display rack, and slide it through the holes so that it forms a barrier on the front and bottom of the open area of your display rack. The wooden rod will keep the bottom of your poles from sliding out of your display rack.

Finish the wood with stain or paint, following the manufacturer's directions.
