Instructions

Use your shovel to make a pile of sand. Put water in your bucket. Remove any debris from the sand. Keep the sand wet by pouring water on it periodically; sand is a much sturdier building material when it's wet. As you build your pile, pack the sand by beating down with your shovel. This will make it easier to cut and shape.

Mold the surface of the wet sand to form the castle's towers. Keep packing the sand down as you go. Create your point by placing a handful of sand on top of the pile. Take your trowel and shave off the excess sand. Using the trowel, carve your tower. Round it out dragging your trowel across the bottom of the tower.

Create cut-throughs to form your arches. Insert your probe slightly into the wall of sand and push down lightly. Turn the probe counterclockwise to widen the cuts. Using your putty knife, force the sand toward the center of the cut. This will create your arch.

Add flags. No castle is complete without flags at the top of its towers. Carefully stick the flag in the top of the tower. Your sand castle is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the sand moist in order to help the sand castle remain firm. Not enough water will result in your sand castle's collapsing. Pack the sand hard and tight. Using the trowel to beat the sand down will usually help in making sure it is firm.
