Instructions

    • 1

Choose which types of scents you want to make. There are many different types of cologne including musks, clean scents, ozone-type scents, fruity scents and woodsy colognes.

    • 2

Get fragrance and essential oils from a wholesale industry supplier, such as Wholesale Supplies Plus or Natures Garden Candles. You must obtain professional-strength oils, not ones that are available in hobby and craft supply stores. Find scents that are phthalate-free, since many consumers are turning away from colognes that contain this chemical.

    • 3

Buy cologne-making supplies, such as bottles and caps, eye droppers, funnels and sample-size containers for marketing and sending to potential customers. You can buy these from the same place you get your fragrance oils.

    • 4

Buy a carrier base for your cologne, such as cyclomethicone or a pre-made cologne and perfume base. You cannot just package the fragrance and essential oils and sell or use it as cologne---the strength will not be safe for application on skin.

    • 5

Make your own custom scent blends by taking different fragrance oils and putting one to two drops of each onto a paper towel. Let the mixture dry for about one minute, then sniff the paper towel---this is what your finished cologne will smell like.

    • 6

Mix your carrier base with your fragrance oils according to the manufacturer's recommended guidelines.

    • 7

Put the cologne into your chosen bottles and label them. You can either design the labels and print them yourself or send your label design to a commercial printer.
