Eureka vacuums are well known for their innovation and endurance, and their bagless vacuums are a favorite of homeowners. One of the most important components of the bagless vacuum is the multilayer filtration system. This is especially true on the Whirlwind Plus 4686 model, which contains three separate filters: a pre-motor filter, a HEPA filter and a dust cup filter. Eureka claims that when kept clean and replaced yearly, these filters prevent 99.97% of vacuum dust from re-entering the air.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eureka dust cup filter
  • Eureka pre-motor filter
  • Eureka HEPA filter cartridge
  1. Step 1

To replace the HEPA Filter cartridge, locate the filter on the back of the vacuum and remove the filter cover by pushing down on the latch above it. Pull the old HEPA filter cartridge toward you and lift up slightly to remove. Insert a new HEPA cartridge by inserting the bottom tabs of the filter into the filter compartment and pushing toward the vacuum until the latch clicks.

  2. Step 2

To change the dust cup filter, locate the dust cup on the front of the vacuum and unlock the latch above it by pulling the latch toward you. Grasp the handle of the dust cup and pull straight out toward you and then lift up. Remove the dust cup filter located in the top of the dust cup by grasping it, turning counterclockwise and then pulling straight up. Insert a new dust cup filter by inserting it into the dust cup and pressing down while turning the filter clockwise. Insert the dust cup back into the vacuum and secure the lock above it.

  3. Step 3

To change the pre-motor filter, remove the dust cup and look near the bottom of the vacuum for a square, yellow, sponge-like filter. Remove it by simply sliding the filter out toward the front of the vacuum. Insert a new filter by pushing the filter into the guide grooves provided.

Tips & Warnings
  • Eureka vacuum filters only need to be replaced once a year. In between replacing them, you can simply remove the filters from the vacuum and wash with warm water and a gentle detergent. Allow filters to air dry completely and place back into the vacuum.
