How Can I Unzip a File?

Zipping is a way to compress a file in order to reduce its size. When a file is zipped, its original extension is replaced with the ".zip" one. Zipping allows to save the disk space on your computer, as well as to reduce time needed for file uploading or downloading. Correspondently, unzipping is a process to uncompress a file. Windows Vista Explorer has a built-in feature to work with zip files.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    In Windows Vista, click "Start" and "Computer" to start Windows Explorer.

  2. Step 2

    Using Windows Explorer, browse to the folder that contains a zip file.

  3. Step 3

    Right-click on the zip file and select "Extract All."

  4. Step 4

    Browse your computer and find a folder where you want to extract files and click "OK." Then click the button "Extract" to unzip the file.
