How to make Potato Korma (Aloo Korma)

Aloo Korma is a very special dish made with potatoes. Various spices are used to make the gravy. It goes very well with vegetable pulao or white rice. The various spices involved like poppy seeds, clove enhances the taste and aroma of the korma. This recipe serves 3 persons.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2 tomatoes (chopped in to chunks)
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • 3 tsp coconut powder
  • 2 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 curry leaves (optional)
  • Cilantro
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 Tsp oil (canola or vegetable oil)
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  1. Step 1

    Cut the potatoes in to half and boil them. Peel the skin and chop them in to chunks.

  2. Step 2

    Keep a small pan on medium heat and roast the cloves, cardamom, coriander seeds, poppy seeds, coconut powder.

    Grind the roasted spices in to a paste using little water.

  4. Step 4

    Keep a pan on medium high heat and add the oil. Once the oil is heated, add the onion, green chilies, curry leaves and sauté for 2 mins.

  5. Step 5

    Add the turmeric powder and ginger garlic paste and sauté for 2 mins.

  6. Step 6

    Add the tomato pieces and cook it for 3 mins with a covered lid.

  7. Step 7

    Add the spices paste, salt, chili powder and half a cup of water and mix well . cook it with covered lid for 5 mins.

  8. Step 8

    Add the potato pieces and mix well and cook it for 5 mins. Add the cilantro leaves and switch off the heat.

    Now aloo korma is ready to be served with vegetable pulao or poori (Indian bread).

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer the milder version, just reduce the quantity of the chili powder.
