One of the most rewarding career is a Mental Health Counselor. One must understand that in order for a person to find success in the field, the person must have a passion for helping others. The salary is not the greatest in Florida but the rewards are priceless. Most places who are hiring Mental Health Counselors often look for those that are licensed. This article will provide you with information on how you can become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida.

  1. Step 1

    First you will need to obtain a Masters degree in the field of Counseling. You want to make sure that the institution where you are receiving your degree is CACREP accredited.

  2. Step 2

    Second, after completing your graduate studies, you will need to register with the state to become a Registered Intern. As an Intern, you will need to be supervised by an approved supervisor. You will need to work two years as an Intern before you can become licensed.

  3. Step 3

    Last, you will need to sit for the State Exam. After taking the exam, you will receive an unofficial result. Basically, you know instantly whether you passed or failed the exam.
