How to Begin Exercising When You are Pregnant

Exercising while are pregnant provides alot of benefits to you. Exercising can help you to sleep better, feel more energized, and helps with your self image. Even if you have never exercised before you can still begin even if you are pregnant. You should avoid high intensity activities like; running, biking, skiing, and you should not work yourself to exhaustion.

  1. Step 1

    Remember you are not trying to lose weight. You should never exercise while pregnant to lose weight. Excercising during pregnancy will help you get back into shape after you have your baby.

  2. Step 2

    Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise routine. You should especially speak with your doctor if you did not exercise before being pregnant. If you are an avid excercisor you should be able to continue your same routine with some modifications.

  3. Step 3

    Start off Slowly
    Walking is a great exercise for pregnant women it is easy and good for you. Begin by walking 2-3 times a week for 15-20minutes at a time.

  4. Step 4

    After a couple weeks of walking you can either add more walking days or you can add a couple of swimming days. Swimming is another great activity for pregnant women.

  5. Step 5

    Listen to your body
    You should only exercise lightly while pregnant and should be able to carry on a conversation without being winded. Watch out for warning signs; can't talk, pain, or dizziness.
