Frying bacon, cooking spaghetti and preparing numerous other meals can create a mess on your kitchen stove. While most people are good about cleaning their stove tops, the stove's hood often gets overlooked. Dust can settle atop the hood, while grease and other food matter can collect underneath the hood (sometimes liquefying and dropping onto the stove and into your pans when cooking). Cleaning your stove hood is a simple process.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 409 cleaner
  • 2 wash cloths
  • Large bowl
  • Dish soap
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Spray the cleaner directly onto the outside of the hood. Wipe the cleaner away with a wash cloth using a circular motion.

  2. Step 2

Spray the underside of the hood.

  3. Step 3

Wipe away the cleaner with the same wash cloth that you used above.

  4. Step 4

Fill a large bowl with warm water.

  5. Step 5

Add a few drops of dish soap to the bowl and swirl the water with your fingers to mix.

  6. Step 6

Remove the filter from the vent. The vent should be located on the underside of the hood, near the back, closest to the wall. Pull back the clips that hold the filter in place. The filter will come out easily.

  7. Step 7

Submerge the filter in the bowl. Allow it to sit in the soapy water for five minutes.

  8. Step 8

Rinse the filter and pat it dry with a clean wash cloth. Reinsert the filter by pulling back on the clips and sliding it into place.

Tips & Warnings
  • 409 works well for cleaning items that get greasy, but just about any cleaner that cuts through grease will work. Multi-purpose Windex is a good example.
  • Always clean your stove when it is cool. Working around a hot stove can lead to burns.
