Keeping a microwave oven in good repair may sometimes involve removing the door for repair or cleaning. Fortunately, this doesn't need to be done by a professional and takes only a few seconds with common materials found around the house.
Things You'll Need
- Putty knife
- Mild detergent
- Glass cleaner
- Paper towels
Insert a putty knife into the space between the choke cover and the door frame on the microwave, beginning on the outside top corner. Continue to work the putty knife across the top of the microwave toward the opposing edge, pulling slightly toward you to release the choke cover. Remove the choke cover once the top edge is separated from the door frame.
Dip a sponge in a solution of water and mild detergent and wring out the sponge so that it is slightly damp. Wipe all exterior surfaces of the microwave oven door to remove stuck-on dirt and food.
Spray the door with glass cleaner and wipe it with paper towels or a lint-free cloth.
Return the choke cover to the door by lining it up in the same manner it was removed and simply press it into place until you hear a "click."
Tips & Warnings
- To clean the interior of a microwave, mix one-half cup of white vinegar with an equal part of water. Microwave on high for one minute. Wipe the interior of the microwave clean with a sponge.
