How to Make an Authentic Jack Sparrow Costume

Many places sell Jack Sparrow costumes, but they're often expensive and unoriginal. 1
Cut out a piece of crimson cloth that is 8 inches wide and long enough to be tied around your head. Hem the cloth all the way around.
-
2
Tie a thick knot in one end of a 6-inch piece of dental floss. String several beads onto the dental floss and sew the other end to the top middle of the bandanna you made in Step 1. You will wear this bandanna over a wig.

3
Buy a black wig and cut it to shoulder length. Gather several chunks of hair from the wig and roll them in your hands until they get the ratted appearance of dread locks.
-
4
Buy a brown T-shirt and cut off the sleeves and the collar. Cut the front of the T-shirt open all the way down the middle. Hem all of the raw edges of the T-shirt to make a vest.
-
5
Buy a white, ruffled, oversized, long-sleeved shirt. Tea dye the shirt to make it look old and weathered. Wear this shirt under your vest.
-
6
Cut a piece of red-and-white striped fabric that is about 10 inches wide and 2 yards long. Tie this piece of fabric around your waist.
-
7
Tie a small piece of brown fabric around your right hand and a small piece of white fabric around your left hand.
-
8
Draw a mustache and beard on your face with black eyeliner. Make two braids out of black yarn and glue them onto your chin using a skin contact glue, which can be found at costume, party, or theater make-up stores.
-
9
Outline your eyes with black eyeliner and pair the outfit with some dark khaki capris and brown boots.
-
10
Use the image in the "Resources" section as a guide to draw a sparrow tattoo on your arm. Spray it with hairspray to make sure that it doesn't smudge.

Tips & Warnings
To tea dye the shirt, plug up your sink and pour some brown tea into it. Let the shirt soak until it is the color that you want it to be. The brown hat is optional, as Jack Sparrow does not always wear it.
