Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a T-shirt jersey in the color of your favorite team. Decide what name you want on the back on the back of the jersey, as well as the number that you want on both sides.

    • 2

Using your computer's word-processing software, create the text that you want written on the back of your jersey. Most people either choose their last name or the last name of their favorite player. Also, select a number to use on the front and back of the jersey.

    • 3

Flip the text and numbers using the "mirror image" or "flip" commands to rotate the image backwards.

    • 4

Print the text and numbers onto iron-on transfer paper. Cut the blank edges of the iron on transfer paper off of the edges, leaving a quarter-inch trim around the edges.

    • 5

Iron the lettering onto the top back edge of the shirt, like a professional jersey. Remember to apply even pressure to the transfer paper. Next, firmly pull the backing off of the transfer paper. Do the same with the numbers, one on the front and one on the back.

Tips & Warnings

  • If this is your first attempt at using iron-on transfer paper, you may want to first apply a sample iron-on transfer onto an old T-shirt or rag to make sure you know how to apply it without burning the shirt or pulling off the backing too fast.

  • Firmly apply pressure with the iron but don't hold it on top of the transfer for too long -- you will burn the shirt.
