How to Cook With a Whirlpool 465 Electric Range

Instructions

  1. Range Top

      Select an appropriately sized saucepan or skillet. The diameter of the pan should be within an inch of the size of the burner on which you which to cook. Inspect the bottom of the pan for burrs if the range top is ceramic. Burrs on the pan will scratch the ceramic range top.

      Partially fill an appropriately sized saucepan or skillet with food, and then place the pan on the burner. Do not slide the pan on the burner if the range top is ceramic.

      Locate the control knob for the burner on which you placed the pan. Push in the knob, and then turn it counterclockwise until the indicator on the knob points to the desired cooking temperature setting. Consult the recipe's instructions for appropriate temperature setting. The burner will glow red when it is hot.

      Watch the contents of the pan, and stir as needed. When it reaches the desired level of cooking and cooks for the desired length of time, remove the pan from the burner. Push in the control knob for the burner, and then turn it clockwise to the "Off" position.

    Baking or Roasting

      Arrange the baking racks in the oven as appropriate for your dish. To move a rack, pull it out until it stops, then lift the front of the rack and remove. To insert a rack, hold the rack tilted up in the front while inserting the back of the rack into the slide grooves in the oven walls. Slide the rack in until it stops, and then drop the front of the rack and finish sliding it in.

      Press "Bake" on the control panel. Set the temperature by pressing the up arrow or down arrow until the desired temperature appears on the digital display.

      Follow the recipe directions for preheating. If preheating is not required, put the dish containing the food into the oven, and then press "Start." If preheating is required, press "Start." Wait for the preheat countdown to end and the 1-second tone to indicate the preheat is complete, and then put the dish into the oven.

      Press "Timer Set," and then enter the amount of time desired to cook the dish in the oven. If no specific amount of time is given, watch the food until the desired indications for doneness are attained. Follow the recipe's instructions for determining when the food has reached the desired amount of cooking.

    Broiling

      Close the oven door to the broiler stop position. There is a detent in the door's hinge that will hold the door open about 5 inches when the oven is in the broiler position. Do not close the oven door all the way when using the broiler.

      Press "Custom Broil" and then press "Start." Press the down arrow to change the temperature if a lower temperature is desired.

      Watch the food to determine when it is done broiling.

      Press "Off" when broiling is done. Remove the food from the oven.
