How to Teach the Five Love Languages

"The Five Love Languages" is a book written by Gary Chapman, a biblical marriage counselor. The book is about his theory that there are five ways to show and receive love. According to the book, each person prefers to give and show love in one of these five ways. To teach the concept, it is important to outline exactly what each of the five love languages consists of.

Instructions

    • 1

Write out the five love languages (Touch, Time, Service, Affirmation, Gifts) on your board.

    • 2

On index-sized pieces of paper, write out examples of each love language. Make sure to write down one example on each piece of paper. For instance, write down "Hugs," "Massages," and "Kisses" on separate pieces of paper for the category "Touch," and write down "Going on a date" and "Working on a project together" as examples of "Time."

    • 3

Tape the pieces of paper to one side of the board in no particular order.

    • 4

After going over each love language, test your students' knowledge of the concept. Call on one person at a time to pick a piece of colored paper and put that piece of paper under the corresponding love language. For example, a student would ideally place a piece of paper that says "Go on a walk" under the "Time" heading.
